The Village : The Walled Garden

The Walled Garden was originally the Kitchen Garden of Monymusk House during the 18th Century and provided the House with fresh fruit, herbs, flowers and vegetables. The garden was larger than it is today and the wall ran alongside the main road. The first Sir Archibald to come to Monymusk grew trees from seeds and seedlings here which were then planted all over his new Estate. In its heyday during the 1800s they grew grapes and peaches and competed with the neighbouring walled garden on Cluny Estate. Most recently the gardens have been used as a garden centre and coffee shop and are now leased to a local fruit grower.
