Bennachie Monymusk lies at the edge of the Grampian mountains, 20 miles West of Aberdeen, set in the sheltered River Don valley next to the Pitfichie hill, Cairn William and Bennachie. The Village has a Primary School, Church, Hotel and Post Office in the centre of the village and a Smiddy located on the main Kemnay - Alford road opposite the entrance into the village. Monymusk has an active community with many groups using the village hall, such as Playgroup & Toddlers, yoga, Scottish Country dancing and bowling. Click on the Monymusk Directory page to view contact details of all the current local groups or to download a copy of the Monymusk Directory.
The Village Annual events are regularly held in Monymusk village at the Hall. The Gala is usually held in July to co-incide with the Great Inverurie Bike Ride which passes through the village. It is a popular Community get-together on a (hopefully) sunny day in the park and in the hall. The village itself is decorated with colourful bunting and there are activities, games, music and hot food for sale. The Christmas Lights 'Grand Switch On' ceremony includes traditional music played by the Kintore Pipe Band, carol singing, a visit from Santa in his sleigh and hot mulled wine and mince-pies. A local child is usually given the honour of turning on the lights, which are extremely impressive and give the village a wonderful festive atmosphere. This is followed by a family disco in the village hall which is well attended and has become a popular local event.
![]() The hall has its own website and internet forum at www.monymusk.org where you can find out what's going on in the village and book the hall. Monymusk also has an Arts Centre, a charity run by the Monymusk Arts Trust, where craft-fairs, concerts and exhibitions are held throughout the year in support of local artists and crafters.
